Lady Gaga is adored by the fashion industry but there is one fashion designer who doesn’t think the 23-year-old pop singer is all that: Italian-English designer Antonio Berardi. He tells Australia’s Herald Sun that he turned down the offer to work with Gaga. “I was approached to design a clothing range with Lady Gaga but I knocked it back because I wasn’t interested in someone whose music is meaningless,” says Berardi. The designer then asks what impact will Gaga’s music have in 20 years. Because of her music and style Gaga has become a fixture in the fashion scene. She attended the Marc Jacobs Spring 2010 show in September at the New York Fashion Week and performed for Jacobs’s after-party. The following month her new single “Bad Romance” made its debut at the Alexander McQueen Paris show. Gaga was then one of the first person to wear a McQueen Spring 2010 dress and heels, showing off that look in her “Bad Romance“ music video. Berardi, on the other hand, has dressed Amber Rose and actresses Megan Fox, Eva Mendes and Gwyneth Paltrow. And he calls Gaga’s music meaningless? Okay.

I am actually in agreeance with him. I don’t believe that what Lady Gaga is doing is of such influence, lasting, or ground breaking. And if Berardi feels that he does not want to work with a woman who’s work he feels is meaningless then that is fine and his personal opinion. It is one to be respected. He desires to not just simply eat out of fame’s hand because thats what other designers chose to do. In addition, it doesn’t matter who he dressed before because in the end Lady Gaga’s stylist still chose to go to him. And that has meaning.

If Mr. Berardi does not want to dress Lady Gaga that is totally up to him. I understand him trying to protect his brand and associate himself with persons he deem are more of a reflection of his brand. However, to call her as he put it “meaningless” and turn around and dress Amber Rose is pretty amusing.

I agree as well. Where I work Lady Gaga is played non-stop, I don’t watch MTV so I heard her music first and did not understand what the big deal was. After seeing her video “Just Dance” for the first time, I could see people being drawn to her theatrics and over the top style. But her music does nothing for me, plain and simple. I am actually surprised by Berardi’s response since Gaga is the new darling of the fashion world, it’s good to know that not everyone gives in to the latest trend.
