HIV/AIDS infection is the leading cause of death for black women, from the ages of 25-34, nationwide.
Washington, DC will be the first city in the US to distribute free female condoms. According to The Washington Post, the distribution is part of a project in which they, “will make 500,000 of them available in beauty salons, convenience stores and high schools in parts of the city with high HIV rates,” within the upcoming three weeks.
City officials hopeĀ female condoms will give women “more power to protect themselves” from STDs and HIV, especially “when their partners refuse to use protection.”
Use female condoms properly to assure safety.

I think that this is a wonderful project to do, because maybe this way women will take the responsibilty upon themselves even if he doesn’t!
If Hiv infection is the leading cause of death in black women then Why is it every magazine geared towards black women is almost always on overload with sex tips and the how to have sex a million ways. Is there anything ever age appropriate geared towards black youth in the media.
Maybe African American magazines need to start promoting things other than hypersexual activity because if the statistics are right black women do not need any tips on how to get it on. Black women seem to have it covered. I applaud the articles published about condom use but media outlets need to be more responsible and do more.
