Designer Donna Karan has been working hand in hand with Parsons School of Design to create two fashion design Master’s program. Karan cites education as a “gift” which is why she helped her alumna launch two new degrees: MFA in Fashion Design and a MA in Fashion Studies. Last Friday, Karan sat down with the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Valerie Steele for an open dialogue about the fashion industry. Karan challenges the fashion production schedule citing a few changes should be made: industry-only fashion shows, pushing back clothing drop-dates to the actual season (i.e. fall drops in September) and offering less information flowing freely to consumers. Her conclusion? “We are killing our own industry.” The groundbreaking MA program at Parsons will launch in Fall 2010.
