Design collective Lovegrove & Repucci specializes in assortment of playfully astute, functional oddities that cover the spectrum from the eco-conscious “Greenaid” tote, to graffiti patterned porcelain place settings. The Concerto Table, however, is their magnum opus.
With its sleek multi-functionality and strong lines, the grand piano-inspired Concerto Table seamlessly combines form and function (along with considerable élan). It’s the most innovative design we’ve seen in a while, and we wouldn’t be surprise if it becomes one of the most influential objects of the decade.
Most tables fulfill multiple functions out of necessity, but few accomplish this as elegantly. The Concerto Table can be used for dining, as a decorative object, a sound system, or a workspace. Among its compartments: a hidden drawer, where the keyboard should be, that can hold cutlery (or office supplies), an iPod dock, and a soundboard that can be propped open to reveal a speaker (when closed, it hides papers, plates, or whatever you’d like to store).
Though the Concerto Table’s price tag is better suited to Oprah than to us, we’re crossing our fingers that Lovegrove & Repucci will produce a more affordable model very soon. In the meantime, we’re content to post a picture on our inspiration board and daydream.
