Certain things always seem to happen to other people and never to me. This is why for a long time I had a hard time coming to turns with what was happening to me.Having to work full-time to pay for my tuition last semester, while taking 18 credits, trying to continue the success of thePearl Magazine, being Senior Class Rep., being involved with clubs on campus and trying to be a good friend and daughter took a toll on me.

I felt a lot of pressure to stay on top and to live up to everyone else’s expectations of me.

For months, I had no energy and found it hard to concentrate. Even the smallest task was overwhelming. I would often forget to eat and when I did remember, I would binge - eating any and everything I could get my hands around (once an entire Costco-size box of fruit roll-ups). I gained 15 pounds in 3

months.

This blog was going to begin with a somewhat curtailed description of what I’ve been up to the past two weeks. Then, after watching “Life in the Fab Lane” starring none other than one of my favorite, most prized fashionista-icon-moguls, I decided it was time I let you in on my dirty little secret.

*Whispers quietly* I am obsessed, inspired, and raised by the sheer fabulousness of RuPaul, Kimora Lee Simmons and Beyonce. A seemingly odd, yet absolutely genuine, almost maternally connection with these “women” feeds my unmoving desire to be Young, Brown and Fabulous.

Ahhhhh…my summer vacation is officially over. I can’t say i’m sad but i’m hardly happy either. I learned a lot about myself this summer. More things than I could possibly write in my beehive diary. These are the final days of August — i’m packing my bags, doing my last minute shopping, and continuing my work of course.

I’m 21 years old, I’m brown and I love my life. I work hard on a daily basis. Trying to make millions out of 15 cents, trying to establish my brand and trying to establish the corporate side of my business. I’ve always been an ambitious youth - always wanting to be somewhere else, do something else and get something else. I have a tendency of getting so caught up in my latest project that I let other things fall to the waste-side - like fun, friends and sleep. After spending almost a year - locked in my dungeon working blood, sweat and tears on my mag - I had an epiphany. It’s time for me to lighten up - go out more, explore the world, make friends, and be spontaneous. I’m young, brown & fabulous - no need to stress all the time over work.

Saturday at the Garden, I had the Beyonce Experience! All I can say is, “SHE’S BAD!” (But not bad in the sense of being bad but bad meaning good, c’mon catch-up!) Beyonce is a triumphant-valiant-unflinching-unforgettable performer. I’m still in awe of her statuesque figure, her fiery vocals, and her unmatched energy — can’t you tell i’m a fan. Beyonce is Bad!
